Healthy Hatton Puts On Tremendous Display Of Fitness
In stark contrast to the circulating stories of an illness during training camp, which turned out to be nothing more than a fleeting minor virus, IBO/Ring Light Welterweight World Champion Ricky Hatton extended an open invitation to the British press yesterday to witness a rigorous display of his healthful condition.
There has been no denial from Team Hatton that Ricky picked up a virus for a short period, but he was so far advanced in his training that he was already preparing to cut back.
Boxing and sports aficionados will know that super-fit athletes can easily pick up viruses and Ricky has simply followed medical advice and briefly cut back, but we can confirm that all is well and Ricky is back on course and cleared by his doctor.
This was readily apparent yesterday when Hatton held a open media training session at Billy Graham's Phoenix Camp Gym in Manchester, England.

From Trent FM Arena, Nottingham, England
NEW YORK - Timothy “Desert Storm” Bradley showed no signs of jetlag in his upset, split-decision victory over defending world champion Junior Witter Saturday. Bradley, a four-fight veteran of the SHOWTIME boxing series ShoBox: The New Generation, captured the World Boxing Council (WBC) Super Lightweight Championship by scores of 115-113, 114-113 and 112-115 to become the 25th ShoBox fighter to win a world title.

The undefeated Bradley (22-0, 11 KOs) had never fought professionally outside his home state of California. Earlier this week, he traveled more than 5,000 miles from his hometown of Palm Springs, Calif., to the homeland of the reigning 140-pound champion for his first world title fight.
Early on, Witter controlled a sloppy fight and appeared to be on his way to his third championship defense. But Bradley, reportedly a 6-1 underdog, rocked the champion in the sixth with a devastating overhand right sending Witter down for only the second time in his career. read more

The eyes of the boxing world will be firmly focused on May 24 at 10PM when the first bell goes to see which Ricky Hatton steps into the ring. The big question will be has the loss to Floyd Mayweather done anything to the man's boxing ability and his belief in himself?
Very few fighters throughout history have stayed undefeated including such greats as Roberto Duran, Lennox Lewis, Marvin Hagler, Thomas Hearns and Sugar Ray Leonard, but it is the nature of how a fighter comes back after a loss that is very important and that is what everyone will be judging Ricky Hatton upon. read more

BUTE VS LARSON IN THE WORKS
By Perake Persson
IBF supermiddle champ Lucian Bute is almost on for a voluntatary defence against Dane Mads Larsen with date and site to be determined. No contracts are signed yet though and surprisingly the final hurdle to make the fight happening appears to be Larsen. Chris Meyer, Sauerland´s CEO, tells sporten.dk in Denmark that Bute have accepted to fight Mads but that Larsen is still asking for too much money. Meyer then says time is running out. One of the things that makes it a rush could be the purse bids January 6 for an IBF eliminator between Librado Andrade and another Sauerland fighter, Vitaly Tsypko of Ukraine. Should Larsen not accept the conditions to fight Bute it´s difficult to see Tsypko doing the same as he then avoids a dangerous eliminator and can go directly to a world title fight. read more

Williams turned professional on June 27, 1978, dropping a four round decision to Henry Bunch. His career moved slowly over the next couple of years as he boxed mostly in the Ohio area. In 1981 he was halted by future IBF cruiserweight champion Jeff Lampkin. He reached a low point on March 1, 1983, when he was stopped in one round by Reggie Gross. THE PRICE OF PAIN
By Jim Amato
In many sports a participant is subject to pain. It goes with the territory. The nature of the beast so to speak. To me there can no greater obvious damage to a participant then in boxing. If you are a boxer and happen to be matched with a superior opponent you must try to summon the courage to endure the pain. It is the game and it is expected of you. Anything less from you could brand you as a coward to the average fan who sits on couch and sips beer watching you take a first class shellacking. Oh the fan will call you a gutless dog but he has probably never stepped into the ring. If he has it was probably not against world class opposition. I have seen some great fighters take terrible beatings. Case in point, the recent beat down of Oscar De La Hoya against a fighting machine named Manny Pacquiao. It was decisive and it was sad. read more

Top U.S. heavyweight in 2009: 2004 U.S. Olympian Jason “Big Six” Estrada
PROVIDENCE - 2004 U.S. Olympian Jason “Big Six” Estrada, arguably one of the most decorated amateur boxers of the 21st century, is in many ways the United States’ top heavyweight hope to bring home a world title belt.
Estrada possesses the quickest hands and feet in the heavyweight division, along with solid “whiskers,” and he has also shown steady improvement in the power game. All told, though, he’s perceived by many promoters, managers and fighters as too risky to fight, largely because he can box the ears off of anybody in the world who weighs 200 pounds or more. read more

Another edition of the French "Grand Tournoi" will go ahead during the winter and spring of 2009, this time the fighters are from welter and jr middle. Some of the names are Hussain Bayram, Damien Bertu, Franck Harroche-Horta, Choukri Yentour, Jimmy Colas and Frederic Serre - all pretty good.
Belgian welter "Sugar" Jackson Osei Bonsu have left Antwerp for final preparations in the Ardennes mountains. Osei Bonsu face Carlos Baldomir in a WBC eliminator on Saturday at the Lotto Arena. Should Jackson win he will then have to fight another eliminator before getting a world title shot. Back in June it all looked different. Prior to Jackson´s defence against Viktor Plotnikov everybody talked world title shots and USA - Jackson beat Plotnikov but the his team had him lined up to fight both Rafael Jackiewicz and Jan Zaveck inside a month in the early fall. As it was the Belgian lost to Jackiewicz in a big upset and an already scheduled eliminator against Baldomir had to be cancelled. Now it´s on again, well sort of, but it will be a very long way back for Jackson should he lose and only one step ahead should he win. There are only two profights on this show, in the other Selajdin Koxha square off against Houssein Hammouch for the vacant Belgian supermiddle title. read more

ARSLAN NEW CHALLENGER FOR HUCK
By Perake Persson
Former WBA cruiser titleholder Firat Arslan is the new mandatory challenger for EBU ruler Marco Huck, who defends the title January 24 against Vadim Safonov from Ukraine. Russian Valery Brudov who was Huck´s previous mandatory challenger left that position to concentrate on a world title shot.
WBA heavyweight champion in recess Ruslan Chagaev is now announced as fit for fight after his injury layoff and defends the title against Costa Rican Carl Davis Drumond February 7 in Rostock. Ruslan was ringside for all three Universum "Champions Night" during November and as late as November 22 still walked with a limp. It´s a calculated gamble by Universum to have Chagaev back so soon and it remains to be seen if his injured achilles tendon holds up once heavy training resumes. Universum haven´t announced it but it should be a fact that Andreas Kotelnik´s defence of the WBA jr welter title against Rene Maidana go ahead on this show. read more

Top Female Boxer Rookie of the Year 2008
Ronica Jeffrey
Most Inspirational of the Year 2008 Eileen Olszewski
Olszewski has taken on some very tough competition in her short time in the sport. In just 2008, in Zurich, Switzerland, she fought Nadia Raoui, defending her WIBA world title against Raoui; Eileen fought Carina Moreno, in another multi-world title championship on June 13, 2008; she fought world champion Simona Galassi of Italy in a 10-round WBC title bout (in Italy); and she fought Elena Reid in a 10-rounder for the WIBA flyweight title, winning that title. She still has less than 10 pro fights on the books, and yet because of the calibre of fighters she has fought, she has an impressive #5 world rating with WBAN! More on Eileen
